Kiss Of Fire Rebecca L Ethington Books

So this series started out awesome. I was so impressed with the quality of the writing and the depth of the characters as well as the intrigue of the plot. Unfortunately this series ended up dragging on. I made it to the beginning of book 6, then before going further read some reviews of the last couple books because I couldn’t imaging the series continuing in a satisfying way. I’m sooooo glad I did that, because after reading tons of disappointed reviews, I decided not to waste my time on this story anymore. I still believe the writing was excellent and creative, but it really just didn’t seem to end, and not in a fun way like some series that you never want to end, but in a way that just made you go “really?” This series started out as a YA romance that had sooooo much potential and sucked me in big time, but it did not last. The love interest from the beginning shifted from one guy to another, and while at first I was sooooo mad about that, I did end up falling in love with the new dude, but it really became less and less about the hero and heroine. New POVs started to come in, and while necessary sometimes, I found myself super skimming to get back to my favorites. And there just wasn’t any steamy passion. And I’m not talking about dirty sex or anything, I like the YA genre for a reason, but the guy who ends up being the main dude just spends all his time “putting his arm around her waist” and that’s about as deep as it goes. When they finally officially “get together,” I honestly couldn’t even tell what that meant cus there was no description at all. I think fading out to black and leaving some assumptions is great, but that’s not how it reads at all. Your just left wondering how deep their relationship actually is. And I love what I call “heart flutter” moments. Moments when you just want to be the heroine so bad cus your actual heart just starts to go crazy at the sweet passion. Nope, almost none of that.

Now I know this is technically a review on the first book, which I thought deserved 5 stars honestly, but since this is a continuing story and you can’t just stop at book 1 to know the completion, I’m leaving my overall review of the books from this series that I did read here (1-5), so you can know if this is something that you would want to pick up or not. I would not recommend this series just based on where it ends up. I never got to the conclusion but based on reviews I read I’m glad I didn’t cus I would have just been depressed, and to the point that I did get to... I was still depressed and confused.

Kiss Of Fire Rebecca L Ethington Books Reviews

I normally wait until an author has written several books before I start reading them. (Anyone remember the changes between Harry Potter 1 and 3?) But a friend of mine pushed me to read it and I'm really glad I did. This author takes an entirely new spin on the genre and doesn't repeat any random trope. I was extraordinarily impressed by the fact that it didn't seem like the author was trying to find her footing, she hit the ground running with her writing style intact and well formed. I literally read this book in one sitting (something I haven't done since Harry Potter 6). I keep referencing Harry Potter here, but the work is more than that. A lot more. It reaches stages in character development that are startling for a first time author and a first book. One reviewer said that if you like Twilight you will like this book, while that may be true, don't assume that this book is like your standard paranormal romances. It isn't at all. So if you're looking for something new, fun and exciting, this is the way to go.
First, I'd like to point out that I bought this book because of the five star rating and the reviews that I read. I almost bypassed it because of the awkward cover art but I browsed the reviews because of the rating. I would suggest revamping the cover to make it more appealing... Like a simple ruby necklace perhaps? Or Jos and Ry in the white room? UPDATE 01/23/13 - I just noticed the cover art was updated!! - much much much better!!

Second, I'd like to commend the author for not writing about werewolves or vampires or any of the common supernatural themes that are rampant now. The story had a unique form of magic and story that played out like an action movie in my head! Very exciting!

The emotions, the history, the characters and everything about the story is well written. The author does a good job of showing the depths of Joclyn and Ryland's history and the characters are well developed. Nothing irritates me more than the "love at first sight" stories that plague bookshelves and this story tugged my heart in all the right places.

It reminded me a bit of the Mortal Instruments series in that there was a bit of frustration with the main characters remaining separated, and despite HOPING and WISHING for their happy ending, the book finishes with you wanting to stalk the author to death to find out the release date of the next book.

Very very very anxious to find out Ilyan's story and what the real meaning of his nickname for Jos. Overall a great read. Couldn't put it down, and can't wait for the next installment! Hurry up already!

Oh and for those who care...there are a few grammar and spelling errors, but like bad spelling in a txt, it doesn't bother me when the story or the point is that great anyway!

Would I recommend this book? Absolutely.
Will I buy the sequel? Absolutely.
Would I buy a printed copy after reading the ebook to support the author? Absolutely
